Am I a good fit for treatment?

What Treatment Looks Like

Beginning with an fNCI

Each patient begins treatment with our form of fMRI known as  functional Neuro Cognitive Imaging (fNCI). The results of your fNCI will be discussed with you in the beginning of treatment to explain why you have been experiencing certain symptoms.

Our therapists then use your fNCI results to direct their focus during your therapies and target the root cause of your symptoms.

Rotational Therapy

While you are in EPIC Treatment, you will undergo several days of intensive therapy. The therapies you attend will vary in discipline and focus. Each day you will experience a rotation of the therapies described in the following pages. We ask our patients to prepare to be in the clinic from 8 am to 6 pm, though your specific schedule will vary day-to-day. Outside of your lunch break, you will spend that time in 30-minute to one-hour therapy sessions.

Neuromuscular Therapy

These appointments focus on the body’s ability to help with your symptoms. Our neuromuscular therapists understand that post-concussion symptoms do not isolate themselves to your head and brain. During this appointment you will work on proper breathing techniques; balance and activation of the vestibular system; massage to improve mobility and fluid movement through your head and neck; and exercise to increase your overall cerebral blood flow and release of neurotransmitters.

Cognitive Therapy

Our cognitive therapists are certified speech-language pathologists. During your time with them, your brain will receive a workout focusing on improving your short- and long-term memory, attention, and executive areas and functioning in your brain.

Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapy at Cognitive FX consists of identifying vision issues and providing treatments to improve those visual connections in the brain. We work on issues with saccades, pursuits, convergence, and divergence, as well as visual perception. Our sessions may consist of combining vision tasks with the vestibular system, attention tasks with memory, or, at times, combining word recall and motor tasks.

Neurointegration Therapy

The goal of neurointegration therapy is to assess sight, balance, movement, and integration systems and their functions individually; begin to rehabilitate the systems that are working inefficiently; and work with the neuromuscular therapists to help re-integrate them.

Psychological
Therapy

Psychotherapy and mindfulness help address the emotional and psychological effects that accompany brain injury. As you meet with our psychologists, they will evaluate your needs during treatment, and may refer you for additional psychological support moving forward after treatment.

Sensory Therapies

This group of therapies focus on stimulating multiple senses at one time. Our sensory therapies use tools that help activate your visual and auditory systems in order to overwhelm your system and allow your therapists to target specific areas in your brain while minimizing the brain’s ability to compensate for those weaker areas.

Final Results and A Post Care Plan

At the end of treatment, each patient undergoes a final fNCI scan. The results of the scan are discussed with you and compared to your initial fNCI. Once you have received your final fNCI results, you will sit down with one of our patient care specialists to create your individualized post care plan. Incorporated in this plan are recommendations from the therapists you saw, and recommendations based on  the results of your final fNCI. Patients also receive follow-up correspondence after  treatment with their  patient care specialist to answer your questions after you return home.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about EPIC Treatment at Cognitive FX

Do you have multiple locations?

Our only location is in Provo, Utah. However, at our single location, we have seen patients from all over the United States and from over 15 different countries

Which Airport should I book my flight to/from?

The Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC) is located 45 minutes away from Cognitive FX and provides many different flight options for patients all over the world.

The Provo Municipal Airport (PVU) is located 10-15 minutes away from Cognitive FX. The only airline that operates out of PVU is Allegiant Air; they offer limited flight options that don’t always show up on google flights or other search engines, so you will need to navigate their website to locate flights.

Where will I stay if I am not from Utah?

Cognitive FX works closely with a local hotel to give our patients special rate, along with a shuttle service to get you to and from the clinic. To learn more about this service, ask about the hotel accommodations during your consultation

When should I arrive for Treatment?

If you are travelling from outside of Utah, we recommend you arrive 1 to 2 days before your first appointment, to ensure that you are settled before your Monday morning appointments. If you are coming from another country, we recommend arriving 2 to 3 days before your first appointment to give you time to adjust to the time difference.

Do I need to get work or school off for EPIC Treatment?

During your time at Cognitive FX, you will be in back-to-back appointments, leaving no time to participate in other activities during the day. Due to the intensive nature of treatment, it is highly recommended that you do not participate in any work or school during your treatment week.

Do I need to have someone come with me during treatment?

It is helpful to have someone with you while you receive your fNCI results in the Report of Findings that typically occur on your first and last day. However, during the rest of your treatment, we recommend attending your therapy appointments alone, so that we can give you our full attention.

What is the cost of EPIC Treatment?

Depending on your needs and what treatment option you choose during your consultation, treatment can range from $3,500-$25,000. For more information visit our pricing page
