Dr. Chris Anderson

Chris Anderson

PhD

Clinical Psychologist

Dr. Chris Anderson has dedicated his career to helping people understand the brain—and how that understanding can improve their lives. Growing up in Colorado, Alaska, and Utah fostered his appreciation for both adventure and lifelong learning, while an early fascination with human behavior inspired him to pursue a career in clinical psychology focused on helping people better understand their minds, their health, and their potential for recovery.

Dr. Anderson earned bachelor's degrees in Behavioral Science and Spanish from Utah Valley University before completing his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at Brigham Young University. His doctoral research examined the relationships among acculturation, social support, and cardiovascular health, reflecting his longstanding interest in the connection between psychological and physical well-being. He completed his predoctoral internship in the Health Psychology Track at the Cleveland VA Medical Center, where he received specialized training working with patients experiencing complex medical and psychological conditions.

Throughout his clinical career, Dr. Anderson has helped more than 1,000 individuals better understand their cognitive, emotional, and psychological functioning through comprehensive psychological assessment while working in private practice, forensic neuropsychology, medical settings, and Veterans Affairs healthcare. These diverse experiences have strengthened his appreciation for the many ways neurological, psychological, and physical health interact while reinforcing his belief that effective care begins with helping patients understand how the brain influences thoughts, emotions, behavior, and recovery. He is passionate about translating psychological science into practical, individualized strategies that help people regain confidence and improve their quality of life.

In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Anderson serves as a tenured associate professor of psychology at Utah Valley University, where he has taught courses including Health Psychology, Brain and Behavior, Psychopharmacology, Introduction to Therapy and Counseling, Research Methods, and Introduction to Clinical Neuropsychology, a course he helped develop. He enjoys mentoring undergraduate researchers and has published in peer-reviewed journals while presenting research on topics including brain health, lifestyle medicine, and psychological well-being. He also enjoys public speaking and has delivered invited presentations on clinical neuropsychology, brain health, and related topics, always striving to make complex neuroscience understandable and relevant to everyday life.

At Cognitive FX, Dr. Anderson combines his background in clinical psychology, health psychology, neuroscience education, and psychological assessment to help patients better understand their symptoms and support their recovery through compassionate, evidence-based care. He believes one of the most rewarding aspects of psychology is watching people make meaningful progress toward their goals, regain confidence, and rediscover the activities that make life fulfilling.

Outside of work, Dr. Anderson is an avid runner who enjoys hiking and spending time in nature. He is also a lifelong baseball fan with the goal of visiting every Major League Baseball stadium and enjoys playing guitar, especially classic rock.
